Troy Moritz Being an Agent of Change

Being an agent of change is not an easy or popular position.

Whether you are bringing about change in an organization at the request of upper management, or seeking to make a change in society, a social club or your own family for personal reasons, expect to experience resistance. Human beings become very comfortable with the status quo.

Troy Moritz Agent Of Change Troy MoritzWhat is the change are you working to make? Is it worthwhile? Do you feel strongly about it? Do you have the resolve and stamina to see it through to completion? Does it meet your moral standards may be a question to ask yourself if implementing the change is in response to a request or order.

Why is the change important? What are the ramifications? Is it necessary? Is it for the good? Will there be negative effects? Will it cause unnecessary inconvenience or pain to others?

How will you effect the change or inspire others to make the change? Have you devised a plan? Have you set workable goals? Do you have a timeline? Are you deeply and completely committed?

Some agents of change see a problem in society and quietly live their life as an example of what could be. They do not so much seek to change others, as cause others to change by seeing the good in them. They choose to lead by example. Some seek a high government office hoping to make change through power and influence. It is best if those who choose this path have a moral grounding and strong ethics as well as an understanding of the needs and workings of society. Others join or start organizations to further their cause. It is always good to have like- minded people to work with. Strength and conviction can grow through relationships.

What ever your change and plan of action; seek respect more than friendship. Many will not like what you are trying to do, but if they respect you, your views and ideas will be more palatable.

Be realistic in the goals you set for yourself. Make small steps on a daily basis to grow closer to achieving the change.
